This garden was designed to work with the tudor style house and the needs of a growing family. Within the front garden where a long empty drive once stood out, Jim decided to make the drive a feature of the garden. He designed this and other paving areas; one area has space for two car, however it has been brilliantly designed so that it does not look like car parking areas. The paving uses intricate, detailed patterns of second hand red bricks, bluestone pavers and an exposed aggregate concrete.
The planting is of an English style with Buxus sempervirens framing the paved areas with a soft infill planting palette. A boastful planting scheme also providing many picked flowers. Specimen tree planting included Cercis Canadensis, Malus ioensis and Ulmus parviflora.
The drive leads to the back garden through the portico. Along the north side of the drive is a planting of Luma apiculata which continues along the drive and into the back garden. The back garden takes on a less formal atmosphere, which is achieved by the introduction of bluestone crazy paving and the second hand red bricks. The planting is also less formal providing a relaxed setting with a subtle mixture of plants used in the front garden with the inclusion of foliage plants and succulents. The back garden now provides an ideal area for the pool and foroutdoor entertaining.
