Sunken Garden

The clients had a small back garden area which needed screening from a new development behind. They did not want lawn to mow and wanted a good usable space to entertain.

In keeping with the interior style of the house, Jim designed a formal layout which involved a sunken area that contained a circular pond for a water feature with fish. The paving design was intended to soften the garden so jim designed a layout which included indian sandstone with seams of yea river pebbles to soften the hard landscape.

Planting was mainly evergreen with Juniper hedging, Myrtle and box hedging, and foliage plants such as Arthropodium and Bergenia. The sunken area of paving included some herbs such as parsley, mint and chives for cooking with. A feature Urn is underplanted with Helleborus and Iris and ungraded river pebbles.

A stone clad wall provided the backdrop to the small BBQ area, and garden lighting and furniture finished off the garden which is now a great area for relaxing and entertaining in during the night or day.
