Singapore Garden Festival 2010 - 'Daintree'
This show garden is inspired by the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest in Far North Queensland and the pressures imposed on it by development.
The design appeals to the Y Generation who will be the future custodians of our rainforests. The shadows cast by the roof, and the pebble shapes in the garden are reflective of the river worn rocks at Mossman Gorge. The pond is a contemplative feature, with a sculpture depicting rainforest lianas, which have been chopped by logging. Inside the pond are hundreds of small pebbles inscribed with messages of hope for the environment, written by the youth of Singapore.
This show garden aims to educate the younger generations that modern development can be done in a way to reduce the footprint on rainforest land.
