When a Melbourne owner builder built a Frank Macchia designed home, he contacted Jim to design the planting scheme to compliment the strong architectural lines and colours of the house.
The front of the house is planted with Miscanthus sinensis, Agonis 'Afterdark'and Carex buchananii. A mulch of ungraded Yea river pebbles picks up on the natural stonework. Minimal planting schemes such as a garden bed of Stachys byzantina with its pink flowers and soft grey foliage add to the rich wall colours. The moat in the front garden is backed up by a screen planting of Miscanthus sinensis, which reflects well in the water and helps to provide some movement in the otherwise still garden.
A bold planting scheme of Agonis 'Afterdark' is underplanted with the yellow flowering Senecio sp. to provide a dramatic colour scheme behind the lap pool and the white cube stools.
A simple yet striking garden, which compliments a very detailed and hard edged architect designed house.
