Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2006
- 'Forest Retreat'
The nucleus of this garden is the versatile ‘deck house’ designed by Noek design of Sydney. Finished in Australian hardwood, the ‘deck house’ provides a relaxed usable outdoor room for relaxing or entertaining and also becomes an amazing centre piece for this garden. Built in kit form, it can be located in any garden position. In this case, it is being used as a ‘Forest Retreat’
Surrounding the ‘deck house’ is plantings of the rare and beautiful Wollemi Pine. These Trees have been planted in a grove to create a woodland feel. Mixed with ferns and other woodland plants, the Wollemi pine will be displayed to inspire people with ideas of how they can use this special tree in their own gardens.
Access to the ‘deck house’ comes via a secondhand railway sleeper bridge over a natural pond heavily planted using water plants and marginal planting. All the materials used in this garden are natural or even recycled in some instances which help to create the organic feel of this garden.
The aim is to create a retreat setting that gives the impression that the modern ‘deck house’ has been dropped into an existing garden scene. Avoiding any constructed elements in the garden, ‘Forest Retreat’ aims to create a haven away from all the terrible misgivings of modern life.
